SCHUTZHUND
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
Schutzhund is a wonderful sport for the
German Shepherd Dog! It contains three main phases of work to test the
dogs ability and versatility:
-
Tracking
-
Obedience
-
Protection
Most people that see schutzhund at first
glance tend to believe that this is all about training your dog to be
a mean dog. This is far from the truth! The sport allows you to do
tracking which tests the dogs ability in scent and requires a high
level of concentration. It allows you to do obedience, which tests the
dogs ability to work with humans. The protection part of the field is
one of three, and perhaps the most interesting. It tests the dogs
ability to act on command and also requires a high level of obedience.
You must pass all of these phases to receive a Schutzhund title. Sound
familiar? These are the very qualities that one should look for in a
good working dog. Schutzhund then further develops these
characteristics for the sport and show.

The Show Me Shepherd dog,
